Ambassador of Palestine in Sri Lanka Dr. Anwar H. Al Agha

The Ambassador of the Republic of Korea in Sri Lanka Mr. Jong-moon Choi and the Ambassador of Palestine in Sri Lanka Dr. Anwar H. Al Agha paid farewell calls on President Mahinda Rajapaksa at Temple Trees this morning.

Mr. Choi thanked President Rajapaksa for his support and also stated that the President’s state visit to Korea in 2012 was a success in strengthening relations between the two countries. For example, there are now direct flights between the two nations and about 25,000 Sri Lankans are working in Korea.

Meanwhile, the outgoing Palestinian ambassador spoke of his hesitation to leave Sri Lanka after serving here for many years.

“I’m feeling sad to leave Sri Lanka,” said Dr. Agha. “There will always be good memories. People are very kind. It’s a lovely country.”

While thanking President Rajapaksa for his support during the ambassador’s tenure, Dr. Agha also thanked the President for his support to “the Palestinian cause and the Palestinian people.”

“We were very happy to see you in Palestine so you can see the actual situation,” Dr. Agha said especially since President Rajapaksa has been a long-time supporter of Palestine. President Rajapaksa made a two-day state visit to Palestine in January of this year.

Minister of External Affairs Prof. G.L. Peiris, President’s Chief-of-Staff Mr. Gamini Senarath and Secretary of the Ministry of External Affairs Mrs. Kshenuka Seneviratne were present.
