The World Conference on Youth (WCY) which will be held in Sri Lanka in May 2014 will provide an exclusive platform for an inter generational dialogue which leads to a joint youth and youth ministerial declaration, Sri Lanka Youth Services Council Chairman Lalith Piyum Perera said.
He said the Sri Lankan government is now in the forefront to host WCY from May 6 to 10 at the BMICH. “A proposal made by the Sri Lankan government in 2011 at the 66th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) to host this Conference on Youth in Sri Lanka has been welcomed and included in the preamble paragraph on the Third Committee Resolutions of 66th and 68th UNGA’s during 2011 and 2013,” the chairman said.
Perera said the theme of the conference will be ‘Mainstreaming Youth in the Post 2015 Development Agenda’.
The WYC – 2014 is expected to attract over 1,500 participants, including ministers in charge of youth affairs, UN agencies, academics, civil society, diplomats, journalists and youth.
