Navy rescues  from floods

Naval troops have been able rescue 180 persons during their deployment on flood relief operations in the Trincomalee, Batticaloa, Polonnaruwa and Anuradhapura districts. 75 persons were rescued in Tabbowa, 19 persons in Pansalgodalla, 21 persons in Galenbindunuwewa, 39 persons in Rajanganaya and 26 persons in Nochchiyagama.

In response to the floods affecting several areas in the island due to the adverse weather conditions, Sri Lanka Navy deployed its personnel on flood relief operations to render assistance to the people affected. Naval personnel are engaged in evacuation of people to safe areas and assisting in the distribution of cooked meals provided by the relevant authorities.

Twelve Naval teams with inflatable rescue boats (IRBs) and fiber glass dinghies (FGDs) have been dispatched for rescue assistance in liaison with respective Government officials in the affected areas.
