Pakistan Naval Ships PNS SHAMSHEER will be arriving at Colombo Port for a 3-day visit from on 13-15 May 2014.

As part of goodwill, Pakistan Navy ships frequently pay port calls to Sri Lanka. These visits are aimed at further strengthening the existing strong relationship between Sri Lanka and Pakistan. PNS SHAMSHEER’s visit is a manifestation of the strong, diplomatic, economic, cultural and defence ties between the two friendly countries. PNS SHAMSHEER is the second ship of SWORD Class Frigates built at Hudong Zhonghua Shipyard Shanghai, China. It is a potent platform and forms mainstay of PN surface fleet.

Pakistan and Sri Lanka have strong defence ties and both Navies engage in multifaceted cooperation. Pakistan Navy provides a number of conventional training courses to Sri Lankan Navy personnel, while Sri Lankan Navy shares its experience and expertise with regard to anti-terrorism operations at sea.

The Commanding Officer of the ship is Captain Rashed Zafar PN. He is a specialized Electronic and Principle Warfare Officer, and is a graduate of Pakistan Army Command and Staff College Quetta.

Captain Rashed Zafar PN will be paying courtesy call on Commander of Navy, Director General Operations and Commander Western Naval Area during the visit.

During their stay at Colombo, the officers and men of the PNS SHAMSHEER will take part in various professional activities with Sri Lankan Navy besides doing some site seeing. Col. Shaheryar Pervez Butt, Defence Advisor Pakistan is coordinating visit of PNS SHAMSHEER.
