President Mahinda Rajapaksa has advised authorities to release all Indian Fishermen in Sri Lankan custody, President’s media announced today.
India abstained from voting for the US-backed resolution at the 25th session of the UNHRC in Geneva against Sri Lanka yesterday claiming that an external investigation mechanism hinders the efforts of the Sri Lanka to promote reconciliation rather than contributing constructively and complicates the prevalent situation in the country.
Spokesman Mohan Samaranayake said President Mahinda Rajapaksa ordered the release of all Indian fishermen “as a gesture of good will in response to India’s stance” at the U.N. Human Rights Council meeting in Geneva.
