Details of SL military officials on BTU website

April 17, 2014

Brigadier WanigasooriyaThe Sri Lankan Army today claimed that a group calling itself the British Tamil Union had in its website published photos and details of officers attached to the Sri Lanka Security Forces in an attempt at hitting back at the Sri Lankan Government for banning LTTE front organisations.

“The British Tamil Union (BTU) website has published information obtained from the security forces’ website. The information includes photos, contact details and birthdays of the officers. This is not a major issue. I think the BTU website has published this information in an attempt to hit back at the Government for banning several LTTE front organisations,” Army spokesman Ruwan Wanigasooriya told a news conference.

He said there were about 100 websites belonging to Sri Lankan Security Forces and related institutions with details of their officers.

“The BTU on its website has published details of 10,000 military officers obtained from our websites. This is not a security breech,” Brigadier Wanigasooriya said.   (Sanath Desmond)
